Representative Colleen Garry
36th Middlesex District
Representative Colleen M. Garry (D-Dracut) is currently serving her eighth term as State Representative for the 36th Middlesex District, representing the citizens in the towns of Dracut and Tyngsborough. Prior to running for the House, she served for eight years as administrative/legislative aide to former Representative John Cox of Lowell.
A lifelong resident of Dracut, Representative Garry is a 1980 graduate of Dracut Senior High School, a 1985 graduate of the University of Lowell with a B.S. in Biological Sciences, and a 1994 graduate of Suffolk University Law School. She was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 1995. She is currently a practicing attorney with a law office in Lowell.
Representative Garry is a member of the Massachusetts and Greater Lowell Bar Associations and the Merrimack Valley Economic Development Council. She is also a member of the Board of Governors of Saints Memorial Medical Center and the Board of Directors of the Greater Lowell Boys and Girls Club. Additionally, Representative Garry holds membership in the Dracut Lions Club, the East End Club Auxiliary, the Lowell Lodge of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, and Dracut Community Emergency Response Team [CERT]. She was a former President of the Dracut Scholarship Foundation, and the Dracut Lioness Club.
Representative Garry currently serves on the House Committee on Ways and Means; the Joint Committee on the Judiciary; the House Committee on Bonding, Capital Expenditure and State Assets; and the House Committee on Personnel and Administration. She is a member of the Legislative Caucus on Elder Concerns, the Massachusetts Biotechnology Caucus, the Regional Transit Caucus and the Legislative Parks Caucus. She was the co-Chair of the House Special Committee on Courthouse Bond Authorization and was past Chairman of the Joint Committee on Counties, the House Committee on Ethics, the House Committee on Personnel and Administration, and past Vice-Chair of the Joint Committee on Criminal Justice. She also previously served appointments to the Special Committee on Adoption, the Special Commission on End of Life Issues, and the Conference Committee on the Sex Offender Registry.
